Origin (“Origin,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Origin mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service.
By using Origin, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
Origin is a campus community platform that helps students, alumni, faculty, and affiliated members of participating institutes connect, share updates, discover opportunities, and participate in institute life.
Account and profile: name, email address, phone number (if provided), password or authentication credentials, profile photo, cover image, headline, bio, education, work experience, skills, badges, and other profile fields you choose to add.
Institute affiliation: role (e.g., student, alumni, faculty), institute association, and verification documents you submit when required for your role.
User-generated content: posts, comments, reactions, job listings, business and club profiles, event details, messages, connection requests, and attachments you upload (images, documents, links).
Communications: messages you send through in-app chat and support inquiries you send to us.
Reports and safety actions: content you report, users you block, and related details you provide.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Device and app data: device type, operating system, app version, language, and general technical identifiers needed to operate and secure the Service.
Usage data: features you use, interactions (e.g., views, likes, connection activity), timestamps, and crash or performance diagnostics.
Push notifications: device tokens used to deliver notifications you have enabled.
2.3 Information from third parties
Authentication providers: if you sign in using a third-party service, we may receive basic account information as permitted by that provider and your settings.
Institute verification: we may receive or validate affiliation information through institute email domains, documents, or administrator review.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of data unless you choose to include them in your profile or content. Please avoid sharing information you do not want visible to other users or administrators.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
Create and manage your account and institute-scoped profile.
Send service-related communications, security alerts, and (with your consent where required) push notifications.
Improve, maintain, and secure the Service, including fraud prevention and abuse detection.
Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We may use aggregated or de-identified data for analytics and product improvement.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information:
With other users: according to your profile visibility, posts, messages, and feature settings. Content you publish may be visible to members of your institute community and, where applicable, to the audience you select.
With institute administrators: where your institute participates in Origin, designated administrators may access information needed to verify accounts, review listings (e.g., businesses, clubs, events), and operate institute programs. Scope depends on institute configuration.
With service providers: hosting, analytics, email delivery, push notifications, media storage, and customer support vendors who process data on our behalf under contractual safeguards.
For legal and safety reasons: to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect users and the public, or respond to valid legal process.
In a business transfer: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to appropriate notice where required by law.
5. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
Access, correct, or update your profile information in the app.
Delete your account (subject to retention described below).
Manage notification preferences in device and app settings.
Block other users and report content or messages.
Request a copy of certain personal data or object to specific processing, where applicable law provides such rights.

6. Data retention
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for security, legal compliance, or backup integrity.
Some content you shared with others (e.g., messages already delivered, reposts, or cached copies) may persist in limited form after deletion.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including encryption in transit where supported, access controls, and monitoring. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
Origin is intended for users affiliated with participating institutes and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. International users
If you access the Service from outside the country where our servers or service providers are located, your information may be processed in those locations. By using Origin, you consent to such transfer subject to applicable law.
10. Third-party links and services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, job applications, business websites, or event pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. Review their policies before providing information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with a new “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice in the app. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
