Origin is a campus community for students, alumni, faculty, and affiliated members of participating institutes. These Community Guidelines explain the standards we expect from everyone who uses the Service. They supplement our Terms of Service.
When in doubt, ask yourself: Would this help our institute community connect, learn, and grow—or would it harm someone or mislead others?
1. Be respectful
Treat others with dignity. Disagreement is fine; personal attacks, harassment, bullying, hate speech, and threats are not.
Do not target people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, caste, or other protected characteristics.
Do not share others’ private information (doxxing) without consent.
Do not send unwanted repeated messages or connection requests after someone has declined or blocked you.
2. Be honest
Use your real identity and accurate institute affiliation where required.
Do not impersonate another person, business, club, or official institute account.
Do not submit false verification documents or misrepresent your role (e.g., student vs. alumni).
Label sponsored or promotional content clearly when posting on behalf of a business or club.
3. Keep content appropriate
Origin is a professional-academic community. Content should be suitable for a broad campus audience.
Not allowed:
Sexually explicit material, gratuitous violence, or content that exploits minors
Illegal activity or instructions to commit harm
Spam, scams, pyramid schemes, or deceptive job or investment offers
Malware, phishing links, or attempts to compromise accounts
Excessive profanity used to attack or shock
4. Posts, comments, and the feed
Share content that is relevant to your institute community.
Credit original authors when reposting or sharing others’ work.
Do not flood the feed with duplicate posts, irrelevant promotions, or automated content.
When posting as a business or club, ensure you have permission from that organization.
5. Jobs, businesses, and clubs
Job listings must describe real opportunities with accurate employer information.
Business and club profiles must represent legitimate entities; fabricated or misleading listings may be rejected or removed.
Do not use Origin to recruit for illegal work, multi-level marketing without disclosure, or discriminatory hiring practices.
Listings are subject to admin review. Pending listings are not public until approved.
6. Events
Provide accurate dates, venues, contact details, and registration terms.
Do not create fake events to collect personal data or payments outside approved flows.
Cancel or update events promptly if plans change.
7. Messaging and connections
Respect boundaries: accept “no” gracefully.
Do not use chat for harassment, unsolicited sales pitches, or sharing illegal content.
Report concerning messages rather than retaliating.
8. Safety tools
You can help keep Origin safe by:
Reporting posts, profiles, messages, or listings that violate these guidelines
Reports are reviewed by our team and, where applicable, institute administrators. We may remove content, warn users, suspend accounts, or involve law enforcement when necessary.
9. What we expect — at a glance
Do
Support classmates and alumni
Share opportunities and events
Give constructive feedback
Protect your own privacy
Report harmful behavior
Don’t
